April 27th... Then it is King's Day, a celebration that the whole of the Netherlands participates in. It is a tradition to decorate our houses, streets and squares. Especially with bunting and balloons ! Red, white, blue and orange are the colours that do well on this day! The decorating often starts a day in advance!

Decorating on King's Day

A typical Dutch tradition that is now celebrated on April 27! Decorating a bike, eating cookies and throwing toilet bowls :) These are the well-known traditions that are done on King's Day. There are also a lot of free markets and of course not to forget... you have to sleep in after King's Night! But if you have slept well, the decorating can begin! Squares are decorated with flags and balloons and everyone walks through the streets in orange clothes. The flag is hung out and the Royal family visits a municipality to go eating cookies!
